Wednesday 6-8-11

Left Coteau Quebec around 8:00. Went through two more locks by 11:00 and left behind $50.00. Canadian locks are only $25.00 each! Got turned around and had to ask a fisherman for directions to Montreal. He spoke a little English. Got most of what he said...3 rocks (rock piles) and a yellow marker. OK..now where? Made phone call to someone we knew had run this way. Made it to lock #6 by 1:15. Winds picked-up (of course) and we had to wait two hours. Second pic is why we had to wait. Very big ship. Got to last lock at 4:45 and...lock gate broke! Could be an hour or more wait (fun). When we finally go into the lock, the boat we were traveling with (french people) told us that a storm was coming and we would see ice falling from the sky. Ice is June? Yeah, right. After a few minutes, we realized that "ice" is hail. So what else can we get today? They also told us that once we make the turn to head up river to Montreal, we needed to give her all she had because the current was about 7-10 knots. Made it to the city dock and just tied off as the storm came. Pic 1 is marina. After rain, we went into Old Port for supper (pic 3). Wonder French soup.
