6-6-11 Monday

Left Cape Vincent around 7:30 heading north. Reached the 1000 Islands around 9:00 (first pic). Went to Heart Island where Boldt Castle is. Boldt Castle was built by George Boldt (Waldolf-Astoria in New York) in 1899 as a testimony of his unsurpassed love for his wife Louise. 127 rooms, 6 stories, indoor pool, elevator, Play house tower (separate from house with two lane bowling alleys), Power house( pic #4) which provided electric to the house, underground passages, beautiful gardens and much more. She died before it was complete. When she died, Mr. Boldt stopped all the workers and the house was never completed. After setting empty and deteriorating until 1977, the state took it over and it is now being restored. Pic #3 is their boat house. It is said that at one time, he had 60 boats. Heart shaped flower gardens. Hearts on the house and the island was reshaped into a heart. True Love! Waiting for my castle!!!! Had to enter Canada to get fuel at $1.31a liter (3.4 liters to a gallon) and we checked in with customs over the phone. Two fishermen showed us an old lock wall to tie to for the night. Very remote.
